Grades 1 - 2

In the academic year 2019-20, CLP is happy to offer a class based on the LAMC (Los Angeles Math Circle @ UCLA) Early Elementary Circle curriculum. The classes will be suitable for math-advanced 1st graders and 2nd grade students. The topics covered this semester will include: Binary Tree, Meet the Balance Scale, Fun With Ciphers, Roman Numerals and Split the Difference.

* Creative Learning Place prides itself on close cooperation with UCLA. The Mathematics program at CLP was founded and is supported by Dr. Oleg Gleizer, the Mathematics Department Chair at Geffen Academy, an on-campus UCLA middle and high school. The program for kindergarten students is based on the book Breaking Numbers into Parts co-authored by Dr. Gleizer and Dr. Olga Radko, the founder and director of LAMC, Los Angeles Math Circle, a free Sunday math school for mathematically inclined children run by UCLA Department of Mathematics. The program for older students is based on the materials developed by Dr. Radko and Dr. Gleizer for LAMC. CLP math teachers are trained by Dr. Radko and Dr. Gleizer to the same standards as LAMC instructors.

Solving logical problems during the course will demonstrate the beauty of mathematics and prepare children for math competitions, such as Math Kangaroo.
